Vodacom brings 5G to Mozambique

4 May 2023

Vodacom Mozambique has launched the country’s first commercial 5G mobile service. The firm, which was established almost 20 years ago and now leads the mobile market in subscription terms, says 5G connectivity is available in parts of Maputo, Nampula, Nacala, Beira and Tete.

A report from ITWeb cites Vodacom Group chief technology officer Dejan Kastelic as saying: ‘The provision of 5G services in Mozambique is expected to introduce exciting opportunities for technological innovation, business solutions, as well as the expansion of IoT use cases. 5G connectivity brings wider network coverage, reliable network connections and faster data transfer.’ Vodacom also says that the rollout of 5G will improve financial inclusion by expanding the availability of its M-Pesa mobile money service.
