Industry watchdog the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has published a series of recommendations on ‘Ease of Doing Business (EoDB) in Telecom and Broadcasting Sector’. The recommendations focus on providing clarity to operators, minimising the duplication of tasks and simplifying administrative processes. The recommendations include the establishment of a digital single window system based portal for completing end-to-end interdepartmental processes online. Elsewhere, the regulator suggested a number of changes for Local Cable Operators (LCOs) and to integrate such licensees into existing systems such as the Right of Way (RoW) portal. Testing of telecommunications products, meanwhile, should be completed via a single scheme, to be determined by officials from the relevant government agencies, namely: the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), the Department of Telecommunication’s (DoT’s) Wireless Planning and Coordination (WPC) division, the Telecommunication Engineering Centre (TEC) and the Bureau of Indian Standards.
