Cogent closes takeover of former Sprint long-haul network from T-Mobile US

2 May 2023

Cogent Communications has announced that it closed its previously announced acquisition of T-Mobile’s wireline business on 1 May 2023. Confirming the closing of the deal, Cogent stated: ‘The T-Mobile wireline business offers the legacy Sprint US long-haul network, a current customer base who are a fit for Cogent’s products and services, and a group of experienced employees with the knowledge and capabilities to execute the company’s strategy.’

Previously, in September 2022 Cogent entered into a definitive agreement to acquire the fixed line assets in a deal valued at just USD1. The legacy Sprint Wireline division includes North American wholly-owned fibre networks consisting of 19,000 long-haul route miles and 1,300 metro route miles, plus North American leased dark fibre of 16,800 route miles, providing services including: MPLS, Dedicated Internet Access and Transit; Colocation; Wavelength; and Carrier Ethernet Services.
