UKE aims to reshuffle 900MHz band

28 Apr 2023

The Office of Electronic Communications (Urzad Komunikacji Elektronicznej, UKE) in Poland is looking to shuffle telco spectrum holdings in the 900MHz band to create four contiguous blocks. A report from Telko.in says that the regulator wants to carry out a spectrum swap between T-Mobile and Plus so that the two separate blocks that they each currently hold can be combined into one larger block per operator. Once finalised, the holdings in the 900MHz band will be: Play (2×5MHz); Plus (2×14MHz); T-Mobile (2×9MHz); Orange (2×6.8MHz). The swap will also benefit NetWorkS!, the long-running infrastructure sharing joint venture of T-Mobile and Orange.

As noted in CommsUpdate earlier this week, Play and Plus recently applied to extend their respective 900MHz licences for 15 years to end-2038.
