Three operators line up for Hungarian 32GHz auction

6 Apr 2023

Hungary’s National Media & Infocommunications Authority (Nemzeti Media- es Hirkozlesi Hatosag, NMHH) has confirmed that three existing operators Magyar Telekom, CETIN Hungary (the infrastructure sister company of cellco Yettel Hungary) and Vodafone Hungary have been registered for the upcoming auction of spectrum in the 32GHz band following an examination of their applications. The regulator added that ‘the procedure continues with the breakdown and evaluation of the offers.’ 32GHz licences will be valid for 15 years with the option of extending by five years.

As previously reported by TeleGeography’s CommsUpdate the purpose of the sale of the ‘greenfield’ 32GHz frequencies is to free up the 26GHz frequency band currently used for carrier network services and make it available for 5G services.
