DIGI Spain has reportedly entered into a financial agreement with global investment company and asset manager abrdn (formerly Standard Life Aberdeen) to help fund the rollout of a fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) network in the Andalusia region, covering the provinces of Almeria, Cadiz, Cordoba, Granada, Huelva, Malaga and Sevilla. Broadband TV News cites a communique from the unit’s parent, DIGI Communications, confirming the plan to cover up to 2.5 million homes passed in 124 municipalities in Spain. To date, DIGI Spain has rolled out a FTTH network passing one million premises and now aims to complete the deployment of the other 1.5 million households in approximately three years. The investment programme comprises up to EUR300 million (USD326 million), committed in substantially equal parts by DIGI Spain and abrdn, and potentially also involving bank financing.
