Texas-based ISP Element8 (E8) has announced that it has secured a USD200 million strategic investment from Digital Alpha, a digital infrastructure investment firm based in San Francisco. E8 was founded by telecoms veteran Kevin Grace in 2020 and seeks to serve ‘tertiary and rural markets through a variety of cutting-edge technologies’. Although it has positioned itself as ‘technology agnostic’, E8 has partnered with vendor Tarana for a gigabit-capable fixed wireless access (FWA) solution.
In a parallel development, E8 has confirmed that it has agreed to acquire Oklahoma City-based ISP AtLink Services for an undisclosed sum. AtLink was founded by company president Sam Curtis in 2005, and currently claims 15,000 fixed broadband subscriptions, which it says makes it Oklahoma’s largest wireless ISP. The takeover is subject to regulatory approvals and certain other customary closing conditions.
