A ruling by Mali’s Supreme Court has confirmed fines previously levied on local mobile network operators (MNOs) Moov Mali and Orange Mali related to billing customers for calls to answering machines, APA News reports.
Back in November 2021 Bamako’s Court of Appeal had fined Orange XAF115.3 billion (USD186 million) and Moov XAF56.5 billion regarding the matter. Now, with the Supreme Court having issued a final ruling, it has also confirmed that the two operators will be required to pay XAF1.5 billion in damages to consumer association Reseau des consommateurs des telecommunications du Mali (RECOTEM), which had brought the matter to court.
