Hong Kong-based CK Hutchison is thought to be in talks with Telenor over a potential merger of their respective operations in Sweden and Denmark. A report from the Financial Times says negotiations are still in their early stages and neither company has so far commented on the rumours. CK Hutchison has also had discussions with other Nordic partners, the report adds.
TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database notes that Telenor is the third largest mobile operator in Sweden by subscriptions and the second largest in Denmark. CK Hutchison, meanwhile, operates under the ‘3’ brand in both countries, sitting in fourth place in the Swedish mobile sector and third in Denmark.
As reported by CommsUpdate back in October, the Hong Kong-based group is already in negotiations with Vodafone in the UK over the possible merger of their UK mobile operations.
