NTC’s latest update confirms nearly 80% of SIMs still unregistered

27 Feb 2023

The National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) has published its latest update on the ongoing Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) card registration progress, noting that whilst the total number of registered cards has reached 35.335 million, this leaves around 133.643 million – or 79.09% – still unregistered. With the government’s preliminary cut-off deadline of 26 April fast approaching, the NTC noted that PLDT-Smart has only managed to register 26.71% of its users, followed by DITO Telecommunity (20.74%) and Globe Telecom (16.45%). All SIMs left unregistered at that date are liable to be automatically deactivated pursuant to Republic Act No. 11934, although there is the possibility of a 120-day extension.
