Tele2 Latvia offering 5G in 64 locations; 65,000 customers using network daily

Tele2 Latvia has confirmed that it has deployed 25 new 5G base stations since the beginning of 2023, extending coverage to Bervirtsava, Bene, Kapsede, Kronauce, Ķekava, Launkalne, Madon, Namiķi Rujien and Vilce. Additional 5G cell sites have been deployed in markets such as Riga, Daugavpils, Jelgava, Salacgriva, Saldus, Sigulda and Tukum, boosting coverage in those locations. In total, 5G services are now available in 64 populated areas across Latvia.

Liga Krumiņa, CTO at Tele2 Latvia, commented: ‘Currently, more than 65,000 of our customers use 5G technology on a daily basis, and their number has doubled in the last three months.’ She added that 5G data consumption has increased by more than 75% in the last three months.

According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, Tele2 switched on Non Standalone (NSA) 5G services in January 2020, before launching Standalone (SA) 5G in February 2022.
