Beeline Uzbekistan announced on its website that it now offers mobile voice and data services in all 31 stations of the Tashkent underground metro system, and confirmed that the service was launched using state-owned rival Uzbektelecom (Uztelecom) network equipment via Multi Operator RAN (MORAN) technology, in a project supported by the telecoms ministry. Beeline General Director Andrzej Malinowskias noted that ‘hundreds of thousands of our customers use the services of the Tashkent metro, so we have made every effort to keep them connected during their journey,’ adding that the service would benefit tourists too: ‘Now guests of the capital will be able to use smartphones at metro stations, in particular, for navigation and searching for desired addresses on the internet.’ The announcement from Beeline – part of the multinational VEON group – stressed that all stations have sufficient network quality for streaming content such as music, videos, TV shows and podcasts.
