27 Jan 2023

Argentina’s National Communications Agency (Ente Nacional de Comunicaciones, ENACOM) is poised to introduce biometric identification for the sale of new SIM cards, media outlet Clarin reports. The article cites Gustavo Lopez, VP of ENACOM, and notes that the relevant resolution is expected to be published in the coming days, at the behest of federal judge Maria Servini.

In October 2021 it was widely reported that National Registry of Persons (Registro Nacional de la Persona, RENAPER) was hacked and that biographical details for the country’s entire population were stolen.
