Italian ISP Melita Italia has been sold to utility group Enel, a former shareholder in wholesale network operator Open Fiber. A report from MondoMobileWeb says Melita customers have been emailed to say that the transaction took place on 23 December 2022, with assurances that their existing services will remain unchanged. It is likely that Enel will look to introduce bundled packages of gas, electricity and fibre broadband.
TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database notes that Melita Italia was previously owned by Maltese fixed and mobile operator Melita. Enel established Open Fiber in 2016, before reducing its stake to 50% later that year and then exiting completely in 2021.
