Telefonica 5G reaches over 83% of Spaniards

3 Jan 2023

Telefonica Espana, which provides services under the brand name Movistar, has revealed that coverage of its 5G network reached a total of 1,719 municipalities at the end of 2022, representing coverage of more than 83% of the population. Last year, coverage received a significant boost following the activation of 5G base stations operating in the wide-reaching 700MHz band, complementing its existing 3.5GHz 5G network which reaches more than 300 municipalities. In addition, Telefonica acquired five blocks of 200MHz in the 26GHz range for EUR20 million (USD24.1 million) last month. The acquired spectrum can be deployed from 2023 and will serve to offer use cases that require high speeds and performance and lower latencies, such as applications in the industrial environment and those aimed at the general public.
