US-based Paige Wireless, which claims the largest LoRaWAN IoT network in North America, has changed its name to Ethos Connected to reflect its status as a ‘leading IoT company embodying more than wireless connectivity’ with a range including consultative services, design, advanced sensor technology, and predictive analytics to customers in the agricultural, water management, and critical infrastructure sectors.
iot squared, a joint venture between Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) and the country’s largest telecoms operator stc Group (stc), has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Rockwell Automation, the world’s largest company dedicated to industrial automation and digital transformation. The collaboration aims to enhance cooperation in the fields of ICT and IoT services in the Kingdom and further strengthen the Industry 4.0 ecosystem. Othman Al Dahash, CEO of iot squared, said: ‘Our collaboration with Rockwell Automation aims to accelerate the pace of digital transformation in the industrial sector in line with the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 objectives. This will be achieved by the adoption of IoT applications that enhance the factories’ operational efficiency, raise competitiveness and sustainability of the industrial sector, and increase production capacity and the quality of products that will reinforce the Kingdom’s position on the global map of Industry 4.0.’
In Russia, Telesputnik reported that the ‘Marathon IoT’ satellite project is moving forward, with Roscosmos subsidiary Information Satellite Systems proposing to expand the capabilities of the planned Marathon satellite system for mobile IoT and aviation solutions. Reportedly the Marathon IoT constellation will consist of 264 satellites with global coverage, with manufacture to begin in 2023 and ‘large-scale production’ scheduled for 2027.
Elisa claims to be the first telco in Finland to provide centralised security for smart home device data with its ‘Kodin Tietoturva’ (Home Data Protection) service. Users can control the service via an application on their smartphone, based on technology from F-Secure. Elisa is also offering a mobile browsing security service called Mobiiliturva.
