Hong Kong’s Office of the Communications Authority (OFCA) says that all unregistered pre-paid SIM cards will be deactivated on 23 February 2023. To avoid disruption users must complete a real name registration process using their official identity cards. The process can be carried out online, at a retail outlet of the service provider, or at one of 18 designated post offices.
The most recent OFCA statistics showed that there were 8.43 million active pre-paid mobile subscriptions in Hong Kong at the end of August 2022, from an overall mobile market of around 17.92 million subscriptions.
