Vodafone Germany has announced plans to roll out around 150,000 fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) connections in Essen over the next three years in partnership with ruhrfibre. The regional wholesale provider will be responsible for the planning and expansion of the passive fibre infrastructure into homes and businesses, while Vodafone will build the connections to its active network infrastructure. The deployment and subsequent marketing of fibre-optic connections will begin in spring next year. Vodafone already supplies more than 200,000 households in Essen with gigabit connections via its fibre-optic cable network, with the new expansion project set to expand Essen’s gigabit network coverage to 90% of homes and businesses.
