25 Nov 2022

Guam-based full-service telecoms provider GTA has launched 5G mobile services. The new network went live on 17 November and all post-paid GTA customers can get 5G access for free with a compatible 5G smartphone. From launch 5G coverage is available in Dededo, Tamuning, Tumon, Harmon, Yigo, Anderson and Latte Heights (North Guam); Maite, Barrigada, Hagatna, Agana Heights, Chalan Pago and Mangilao (Central Guam); and Nimitz and Agat (South Guam). The 5G spectrum being used by the telco has not been disclosed.

Roland Certeza, President and CEO of GTA, commented: ‘GTA has a long history of connecting Guam both locally and to the world … We’re excited to launch 5G today and will continue to expand Guam’s best mobile service. In fact, we recently invested millions in buying even more spectrum to make sure we can continue to provide the island with the best, most reliable network now and into the future.’

According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, GTA holds 5G-suitable spectrum in the 2.5GHz and 3.5GHz and 24GHz bands. The telco’s most recent spectrum purchase saw it pay USD16.565 million for three 2.5GHz licences in September 2022.
