ECOI postpones 2G shutdown to 2025

24 Nov 2022

The Electronic Communications Office of Iceland (ECOI) has published the results of its public consultation on the planned closure of the country’s 2G and 3G networks, revealing an updated plan for the 2G/3G shutdown. The regulator said that it received comments from eight parties, with most of the respondents requesting a postponement to the original plans to completely shut down 2G services by 2024 and 3G by 2025. To that end, the ECOI highlighted that it has updated the timeframe, giving operators until the end of 2025 to shut down both 2G and 3G services.
