Dutch telco KPN has deployed Nokia’s 25G PON fibre technology in a field trial at an animal hospital in Rotterdam using its existing fibre network. Nokia’s press release says that by using the Finnish vendor’s Quillon chip, 25G PON can work alongside GPON and XGS-PON on the same fibre, and powered by the same access node. Dependent on the optics chosen, 25G PON supports symmetrical bitrates (25Gbps in downstream and upstream) and asymmetrical bitrates (25Gbps/10Gbps).
