Telkomsel upgrades 3G network to 4G in 185 cities/districts

Indonesian mobile network operator (MNO) Telkomsel has revealed that, under its ongoing 4G upgrade programme, it has successfully upgraded 185 cities/districts from 3G to 4G since March 2022. Further the MNO noted that it is targeting at least 504 cities/districts to be able to switch to 4G as part of the plan.

This month, the company upgraded its 3G network in 19 cities/districts spread across Sumatra, Kalimantan, Maluku and Central Java, including in Merauke, Mandailing Natal, Seruyan, Kapuas, West Kutai, Karanganyar, Boyolali, and Sleman.

Commenting, Telkomsel’s director of network operations, Nugroho, said: ‘Through the process of upgrading the network from 3G to 4G/LTE, Telkomsel recorded an increase in the number of customers who have switched to using uSIM 4G by up to 10%. We are optimistic that this effort will be able to improve people’s digital lifestyle experiences, as well as open up the acceleration of national economic transformation into in the future’.

As previously reported by TeleGeography’s CommsUpdate Telkomsel kicked off its third upgrade phase in July this year targeting 143 cities/ municipalities.
