The Philippines’ new third telco DITO Telecommunity has revealed that whilst it is still considering any legal alternatives, it is open to finding an ‘amicable settlement’ in its dispute with PLDT Inc. over unpaid debt that the latter claims now tops PHP430 million (USD7.3 million).
In response to DITO’s statement yesterday (19 October), PLDT reportedly welcomed its rivals announcement but asked that it stop trying to muddy the waters by trying to confuse the outstanding debt – which is for work undertaken in the build-out of DITO’s network – with other debts it owes to PLDT’s mobile division Smart Communications. As such, it has asked DITO to make good through the payment of the PHP430 million ‘defaulted’ sum and has given it until 4 November 2022 to do so.
