Green Gibraltar to begin demonstrations in hinterland next month

18 Oct 2022

Guyanese 5G newcomer Green Gibraltar is set to begin demonstrations of its products throughout the hinterland next month as it gears up for its commercial launch. The new telco’s director, Jai Narine Singh, was quoted as saying In an interview with Stabroek News of the operator’s plans: ‘We have a demo of what we can do to take telecommunications to another level, in terms of what it can do for the hinterlands. It is not a profitable area and that’s why most telecoms businesses don’t go there but we see so much potential for medical and agriculture aid. For us, it is what telecoms can do in the backdams, so to speak.’

As noted by TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, Green Gibraltar was issued with an operating licence and spectrum in the 3.5GHz band in February this year. Its concession covers seven of Guyana’s ten regions: regions Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam), Three (Essequibo Islands-West Demerara), Four (Demerara-Mahaica), Five (Mahaica-Berbice), Six (East Berbice-Corentyne), Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni) and Ten (Upper Demerara-Berbice).
