Yota de Nicaragua has launched fibre-optic broadband connectivity in Sebaco, a municipality in the Matagalpa department which is situated at the junction of the Pan-American Highway and the Rio Grande de Matagalpa. The new network, which was announced via social media, is capable of delivering download speeds of up to 300Mbps.
While Yota is best known for its WiMAX network – which was launched in Managua in 2010 and extended to other locations between 2018 and 2020 – it has activated fibre broadband in selected locations over the last year. According to the ISP’s website, the service is already live in Leon and the city of Matagalpa. Going forward, Bluefields – the capital of the South Caribbean Autonomous Region – is earmarked for future connectivity.
