Telecom Italia (TIM) is set to launch its first commercial 10Gbps fixed broadband service in 33 cities at the start of next week. A report from MondoMobileWeb says that the offer, based on XGS-PON technology which TIM has been trialling for the past year, will cost EUR34.90 (USD34.40) a month. Earlier this year TIM opened a trial of the 10Gbps service for up to 3,000 customers in eleven cities which was priced at EUR49.90 a month. Around 1.2 million premises are covered by TIM’s XGS-PON infrastructure.
