CityFibre announces rollout milestone as network passes two million premises

21 Sep 2022

CityFibre, which bills itself as ‘the UK’s largest independent full fibre platform’, has announced that it now passes more than two million premises with its infrastructure. In a press release regarding what it called a ‘major milestone’, the company noted the achievement puts it a quarter of the way to achieving its overarching nationwide rollout target of eight million homes and businesses passed.

Having begun construction of its access network in 2018, CityFibre noted that it had passed one million premises in the last year alone across 75 metropolitan areas, and now claims to operate ‘the UK’s second largest full fibre network’. Of the two million homes passed to date, approximately 1.8 million are classified as ‘Ready For Service’ (RFS), enabling residents to place an order and receive services in as little as five working days.

Further, CityFibre highlighted the fact that more than 30 consumer ISP partners – including TalkTalk, Vodafone and Zen – have chosen its carrier-grade services and are benefiting from what it claims are market-leading wholesale products and pricing. According to CityFibre, ISPs are now delivering record orders each month, accelerating take-up across its network, with it stating that in its most mature rollout location, Milton Keynes, it has now exceeded 25% take-up, with other locations said to be growing on a similar trajectory.

Commenting, CityFibre CEO Greg Mesch said: ‘As the UK’s second largest fibre network, we’re thrilled to now provide two million households with access to the nation’s fastest and most reliable broadband services … As the nation’s true digital infrastructure challenger, we’re determined to keep raising the bar with better products, better services, and better economics. This won’t just benefit our customers and theirs, it will help unlock innovation and economic growth across the UK.’
