Reliance Jio Infocomm (Jio) is planning to invest INR2 trillion (USD25 billion) in 5G network construction and plans to launch commercial services in several major cities before the end of October this year. The Economic Times cites the company’s chairman Mukesh Ambani as saying at parent company Reliance Industries Limited’s (RIL’s) AGM that: ‘By December 2023 … we will deliver Jio 5G to every town, every taluka and every tehsil of our country’. In the near-term, though, the operator is aiming to launch its 5G Standalone (SA) network in major cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai by Diwali this year.
