Sweden’s Post and Telecom Agency (Post & Telestyrelsen, PTS) says 93 applications have been made for its 2022 broadband support scheme, which will offer subsidies of SEK1.3 billion (USD123 million) to cover rural network rollouts in three regions, Norrland, Svealand and Gotaland. Between them, the applicants have requested a total of almost SEK3.6 billion to cover 856 proposed expansion projects.
The regulator says it will make a decision on which projects get funding over the next few months, with subsidies to be allocated by the end of the year. Unsuccessful bids can be resubmitted next year, PTS says. Applicants included twelve private companies, 43 municipal companies, 25 municipal authorities and 13 economic associations.
