PT Telekomunikasi Selular (Telkomsel) has reached an agreement to sell a further 6,000 telecommunication towers to PT Dayamitra Telekomunikasi (Mitratel). Under the terms of a sale and purchase agreement (SPA) concluded on 29 July, the towerco is also deploying Telkomsel’s Internet of Things (IoT) and data analytics services to provide real time management of the towers and proactive optimisation of power consumption. No financial details were disclosed.
As previously reported by CommsUpdate, in September 2021 Telkomsel and Mitratel struck a ten-year leaseback deal to sell 4,000 telecom towers for IDR6.2 trillion (USD435.2 million). At the time, Telkomsel minority shareholder Singtel Group said: ‘The transaction will allow Telkomsel to optimise its capital structure as Telkomsel focuses on its core business of providing digital connectivity services to customers in Indonesia’.
The latest divestment now puts the number of Telkomsel’s telecommunication towers that have changed ownership to Mitratel at 16,050 units.
