Oman’s Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) has issued Decision No. 108/2022 to regulate and monitor the quality of telecoms services in the Sultanate. The new regulation comprises basic requirements needed to be met by a licensed telecoms operator to ensure the delivery of high-level services to end users in line with international quality standards. The TRA will be responsible for measuring the quality of fixed and mobile services supplied to end users through field surveys, while operators will be required to submit reports on the key performance indicators for service quality, as set by the regulator. Licensed operators are also required to publish information about the quality of the services and packages they offer to the public, as well as the expected speed of their fixed broadband tariffs, with the actual speed experienced by customers required to be no less than 90% or 70% the advertised data rate for fixed or fixed wireless plans, respectively.
