Brazilian regional ISP Desktop Sigmanet has announced that its subsidiary Starnet Telecomunicacoes (Starnet) has signed a Share Purchase Agreement to acquire 70% of the capital stock of Cilnet Comunicacao e Informatica (Fasternet) and 100% of the stock of IDC Telecom.

Fasternet is a fibre-optic ISP that serves the interior of Sao Paulo state, with roughly 115,000 subscriptions in Tatui, Cerquilho, Boituva, Amparo, Rio Claro, Itu and more than 30 other cities in the region. IDC also provides fibre connectivity in the interior of Sao Paulo state, with around 40,000 subscriptions in Guararema, Biritiba Mirim, Santa Branca, Mogi das Cruzes and eight other nearby towns.

Bruno Silva Carvalho de Souza Leao, Chief Financial, M&A and Investor Relations Officer, commented: ‘Both acquisitions are consistent to Desktop’s strategy, which focuses on players that operate in regions adjacent to the company’s current operation, that are leaders in their respective markets, with consistent gain of market share, and with potential to leverage the company’s organic growth by opening new markets.’
