ATNI-backed Commnet swoops for Sacred Wind

28 Jul 2022

Rural US ISP Commnet Broadband has agreed to acquire Sacred Wind Enterprises, a privately owned rural telecoms provider in New Mexico, in a move designed to expand its infrastructure reach and broadband services in the rural Southwest. The transaction is expected to close in several months’ time, after the receipt of approval from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and other regulatory authorities.

Commnet is a wholly owned subsidiary of ATN International (ATNI), and focuses on customers in rural America and Tribal communities. For its part, Sacred Wind – which also operates under the Ethos Broadband and Connect 66 brands – was created primarily to bridge the digital divide for tribal communities in New Mexico. Sacred Wind claims to be the first telco to provide fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) connectivity on Navajo lands.
