Louisiana serves up GUMBO funding worth USD130m

27 Jul 2022

Louisiana will distribute USD130 million worth of fixed broadband funding to cover deployments in the state, it has been announced. The initiative will be bankrolled by the state’s Granting Unserved Municipalities Broadband Opportunities (GUMBO) programme, which received funding through the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA).

The funds will support the deployment of affordable and accessible fixed broadband services to more than 66,306 locations across 50 parishes. Parishes not included in this first round will have another opportunity to participate in a future round of the programme. While the list of recipients is dominated by local operators, major players such as AT&T, Cox Communications, Charter Communications and Comcast will also receive sizeable funding packages.
