Telkomsel’s 3G to 4G migration enters third phase

Indonesian cellco Telkomsel has revealed that its ongoing upgrade from 3G to 4G LTE services has entered the third of four planned stages, with the ultimate goal of migrating all 3G users to the more advanced technology by the end of this year. In stage one, Telkomsel completed the upgrade in 86 cities/municipalities in March-May 2022, completing a further 91 cities/municipalities in stage two which was completed in June. The third phase kicked off this month targeting 143 cities/ municipalities with details on the fourth and final phase set to be announced in due course.

Telkomsel claims that in stages one and two it was seeing some 500,000 subscribers per month upgrading to 4G and says that its efforts are supported by a VoLTE service that is now available in more than 514 cities/municipalities throughout Indonesia, and can be used on more than 100 different smartphones.
