20 Jul 2022

United Group, which has pay TV and internet operations across southeast Europe, has announced plans to combine its subsidiaries in Greece under the Nova brand. Fixed line and mobile operator Wind Hellas will be merged with TV and broadband provider Nova by the end of this year. The two firms already share a common management team.

Panagiotis Georgiopoulos, CEO of the two Greek companies, said: ‘Nova and Wind are in the final stages of merging into one corporate entity, under the name Nova. With many years of diverse experience in the fields of telecommunications and television entertainment, with significant investments, but also with a customer-centric philosophy, we are ready to offer innovative services to consumers and businesses, effectively contributing to the digital transformation of the country.’

Wind Hellas has been wholly owned by United Group since mid-January 2022, while the group upped its stake in Nova to 100% in April 2021, having acquired an initial 33.2% interest the previous year. United Group says that EUR1.3 billion (USD1.32 billion) will be pumped into the Greek business over the next few years to expand its fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) and 5G networks.
