Telkomsel switches off 3G network in Jakarta

7 Jul 2022

Mobile operator Telkomsel switched off its 3G network in the Jakarta area, starting with East Jakarta on 6 July and with Tangerang and Bekasi to follow in the near future. The move comes in the wake of the cellco’s recent acceleration of its 4G LTE rollout in East Jakarta last month. Customers still using its 3G SIM cards in the area are being urged to upgrade while Telkomsel is also setting out its stall to push for a greater availability of its 4G network throughout the region, including Central Jakarta, North Jakarta, South Jakarta and West Jakarta. Trendy Bregantoro, Telkomsel Manager of Corporate Communication, confirmed that the next cities that will be shutting down 3G services are Tangeran, Bekasi and Tangsel, adding: ‘It is possible that 3G will be turned off in the three regions on 20 July 2022’.
