Sprint reaches the finishing line: legacy LTE networks switched off by T-Mobile

T-Mobile US has deactivated the legacy LTE networks that formerly belonged to Sprint, in accordance with its previously disclosed timetable. Sprint’s LTE network – which used the 800MHz (ex-iDEN), 1900MHz (PCS) and 2500MHz (ex-WiMAX) frequency bands – was retired on 30 June 2022.

Running in parallel, as of 1 July 2022 T-Mobile’s 3G UMTS network has been retired. Previously, on 31 March this year T-Mobile switched off Sprint’s CDMA network.

TeleGeography notes that Sprint was acquired by T-Mobile US on 1 April 2020 and the Sprint brand was discontinued on 2 August 2020.
