SCM/Ukrtelecom owner files lawsuit in European Court of Human Rights against Russia

Rinat Akhmetov, the owner of Ukrainian conglomerate SCM Group, which includes telco Ukrtelecom, has filed a lawsuit in the European Court of Human Rights against the Russian Federation for compensation for massive destruction of Ukrainian infrastructure as well as blockading, diverting and looting the country’s resources. Mr Akhmetov, a native of Donetsk in east Ukraine, is the founder of SCM and is well known as owner of Donetsk’s Shakhtar football club. SCM Group includes large industrial companies including Metinvest, DTEK, Media Group Ukraine, ESTA Holding, UMG, Lemtrans and Harvist Holding. Prior to the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February, approximately 200,000 people worked in industry holdings and manufacturing facilities under SCM’s control.
