New Zealand utility firm Mercury has launched Mercury Broadband, giving its electricity and gas customers the ability to add fibre-optic broadband access to their Mercury account. The ‘Unlimited Fibre Ultra’ package provides transmission speeds of 841Mbps/502Mbps (down/uplink) with a monthly price of NZD89.0 (USD56.1).
Previously, on 2 May 2022 Mercury completed its NZD467 million takeover of Trustpower’s retail business. The final price of the deal – which included 416,000 gas, electricity and fixed broadband accounts – involved an underlying purchase price of NZD426 million, alongside a working capital contribution of NZD41 million, and represented an increase on the previously announced price of NZD441 million.
At the time of the takeover, Mercury CEO Vince Hawksworth commented: ‘Going from a dual utility provider to a truly multi-product retailer adds material value for our customers in terms of convenience, cost efficiencies and the delivery of innovative and exciting products.’
