PNG newcomer Vodafone amasses over 650,000 subs in first month

14 Jun 2022

Vodafone PNG (Digitec Communications) has reported garnering more than 650,000 mobile subscriptions in its first month of operations. Local newspaper The National quotes the new mobile network operator’s head of corporate sales Bipin Solanki as confirming the total, noting it is receiving an overwhelming response from both the consumer and business market segments. In addition, Solanki was keen to point out the onboarding of PNG DataCo Ltd as its business customer and said it hoped to sign up more business customers ‘over the coming months’. For its part, PNG DataCo general manager Une O’ome said: ‘On behalf of PNG DataCo Limited, we are pleased to welcome Vodafone as our service provider for mobile telecommunications … We believe in competition. That’s why we exist – to provide telcos the capability to deliver their services to our people at an affordable price.’ The paper notes that PNG DataCo was established in 2014 as a state-owned enterprise that owns, manages, operates, and maintains telecommunications wholesale infrastructure and assets.
