TIM 3G switch-off now scheduled for mid-October

10 Jun 2022

Telecom Italia (TIM) has given a revised date of mid-October for its ongoing 3G network shutdown. The operator was planning to have completed the switch-off by the end of this month, but was told by Italy’s telecoms regulator several weeks ago that it must delay the switch off as some users have still not upgraded to 4G-capable handsets, or they have the correct handset but need a new SIM card which supports 4G. There are also issues at MVNOs which are still using TIM’s 3G infrastructure. The telco has now published an updated list of region-by-region shutdown dates, with the final batch of closures due to take place between 1 October and 15 October.
