8 Jun 2022

Belize Telemedia Limited (BTL, Digi) has reportedly sealed the takeover of rival ISP Alternative Network Limited (ANL). Channel 5 indicates that the deal is valued at around BZD6 million (USD2.9 million). According to ANL’s website, it currently offers fixed wireless access (FWA) in San Ignacio, Santa Elena, Benque Viejo Town, Succotz Village, Cristo Rey Village, Santa Familia, Bullet Tree, Camalotte Village, Belmopan, La Democracia, Belize City and Roaring Creek. Further, the ISP leverages a content agreement with Cayo Television Network to offer live streaming services.

TeleGeography notes that the Belizean fixed broadband market has witnessed widespread M&A activity over the last year. In November 2021 Central Television & Internet (NEXGEN) acquired Channel Broadcasting Cable (CBC). Subsequently, in January 2022 Central Television & Internet and Centaur Communications teamed up to acquire Southern Cable Network (SCN).
