Mobile provider Telenor Myanmar has changed its name to Atom Myanmar with effect from 30 May 2022 following the sale of the company by former parent Telenor Group to M1 Group. In a statement, the company noted that the change will not impact the range of services offered by the company and customers will not be affected by the change. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, the Norwegian group completed the controversial sale of the Myanmar division to M1 in March this year. In order to secure permission for the transaction from local authorities M1 was required to partner with a Myanmar firm. To that end, M1 agreed to transfer a majority stake in the cellco to Shwe Bain Phyu Group (SBP) following the completion of the deal with Telenor.
