PLDT confident of signing up 1m new FTTH subs in 2022

26 May 2022

PLDT Inc. senior vice president Jeremiah de la Cruz told a press briefing that the company is on course to sign up one million new fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) subscriptions this year, repeating the success of the 1.13 million it added in 2021. ‘We are confident Home could at least match that net addition number in 2022, barring major hitches for the balance of the year,’ he said. In January-March 2022 PLDT reported signing up 213,000 new FTTH subscriptions to lift the total to 2.60 million, making it the market leader in that segment. In total, the telco had 4.11 million fixed broadband subscriptions including DSL and fixed wireless connections.

The official went on to note: ‘Eight out of ten [PLDT Home Fiber] customers now access the internet through our extensive fibre network, which has passed 15.5 million homes. As of end-March, PLDT’s fixed broadband service covered 62% of the total cities and municipalities nationwide. More Filipinos will be connected to our fibre network as our rollout again gathers momentum after being slowed down by Typhoon Odette and the Omicron surge.’
