Telecom Italia (TIM) networks unit FiberCop and Open Fiber have shared a series of government-subsidised fixed broadband rollout contracts worth a combined EUR3.39 billion (USD3.63 billion). FiberCop won the tenders in the regions of Sardinia, Abruzzo, Molise, Marche, Umbria, Piedmont, Liguria, Val d’Aosta, Calabria and Basilicata. Open Fiber was successful in Tuscany, Lazio, Puglia, Emilia-Romagna, Sicily, Campania, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Veneto and Lombardy. The firms must deploy infrastructure offering connectivity of at least 1Gbps/200Mbps (download/upload) past seven million households in underserved areas by the target date of 30 June 2026.
