Uzbek state agency Uzbekspace has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with OneWeb to explore the provision of ubiquitous high speed, low latency broadband satellite connectivity across Uzbekistan, supporting aims to boost innovation and digitalisation of its economy and society. A press release from OneWeb says the MoU paves a path for close collaboration in relation to market access, potential distribution of OneWeb’s Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite capacity in the country, and coordination with other state agencies, plus public and private sector enterprises.

Ivan Zaitsev, Market Access Director at OneWeb, commented: ‘We are happy to play a role in the process of enabling the digitalisation of Uzbekistan by bringing in our high throughput, low latency connectivity over LEO satellites, including opportunities in e-government services, mining and green energy projects in even the most remote settlements of the country. Our network, operations and customer support systems, products and user terminals are created for the local network operators who are most knowledgeable and remain in control, but with their end customers in mind, with an opportunity to use various ‘last mile’ solutions, including LTE and 5G, now to be delivered anywhere.’
