United Group and PPF in talks to acquire Telekom Romania Mobile – report

10 May 2022

United Group and PPF remain in the running to acquire Telekom Romania Mobile Communications from Deutsche Telekom (DT) and its subsidiary OTE, several unnamed sources have informed Ziarul Financiar. The local paper adds that the Bulgarian entrepreneur Spas Roussev, who has connections to Russian businessmen in VTB Capital, had also shown an interest but pulled out of talks following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The prospective buyers are reportedly pushing DT and OTE to lower the EUR200 million (USD211 million) asking price for their mobile operation in Romania.

OTE owns almost 100% of the company following its purchase last year of the 30% stake held by Telekom Romania Communications. This divestment was a condition for Orange Romania’s EUR296 million acquisition of a controlling 54% stake in the incumbent fixed line operator (since renamed Orange Romania Communications) from the Greek telco last September.
