TIM to delay 3G shutdown until July

9 May 2022

Telecom Italia (TIM) has been forced to postpone the shutdown of its 3G network, which had been expected at the end of June. The telco has now been told by the Communications Regulatory Authority (Autorita per le Garanzie nelle Comunicazioni, Agcom) that it must delay the switch off until July as some users have still not upgraded to 4G-capable handsets, or they have the correct handset but need a new SIM card which supports 4G. There are also issues at MVNOs which are still using TIM’s 3G infrastructure. TIM has been phasing out 3G services since last month but is now expected to publish a new timetable for network shutdowns in each region.
