Entel books 14% uptick in revenue

3 May 2022

Chile’s Entel Group has booked total revenue of CLP649.9 billion (USD760 million) for the first three months of 2022, an improvement of 14% year-on-year, but a dip of 1% compared to the previous quarter. EBITDA for the quarter was up by 7% y-o-y to CLP189.6 billion, while net profit soared to CLP52.3 billion from CLP17.3 billion, though Entel noted that the increase was primarily due to tax credits posted during the period.

Entel’s Chilean division reported a net increase in mobile subscriptions to 10.298 million (from 10.166 million in Q4 2021), driven by uptake in post-paid subscriptions, and IoT and mobile broadband and offset in part by a reduction in tele-education accounts. Quarterly mobile ARPU dipped to CLP7,037 from CLP7,338. The operator recorded a total of 7.167 million 4G subscriptions as at end-March 2022, down from 7.237 million at end-December 2021, whilst 5G accounts totalled 213,000. In its domestic ‘Home’ segment the company recorded a total of 538,337 RGUs, largely unchanged from 539,086 in the previous quarter and with a decrease in wireless RGUs offset by an increase in fibre and over-the-top (OTT) TV accounts.

Its Peruvian division, meanwhile, recorded a 3% reduction in subscriptions quarter-on-quarter to 9.73 million with Entel attributing the disconnections to higher churn rates in educational entities and migration from pre-paid to post-paid plans. The latter it said was driven by new mobile offers introduced during the period for additional lines.
